The International AIDS Conference takes place every two years. It is the most important meeting where civil servants, researchers, the international community working on the issue, leaders of the sector and people living with HIV get together.
AIDS 2012 will be held 22-27 July 2012 in Washington DC. The local choice was celebrated bearing in mind that until October 2009 people living with HIV were banned from entering the USA. Current President Barack Obama abolished the measure that had been in force for 22 years. This was a very important step forward in the human rights field.
The event, in charge of the International AIDS Society (IAS), has ICW Global as co-organiser. The Network has this leading role since the Conference held in 1993 in Berlin.
In addition, during AIDS 2010 in Vienna, Patricia Perez, Chair of the International Community of Women living with HIV, gave a closing ceremony speech.
Over 20,000 people from 200 countries are expected to meet in order to share experiences, discuss the advances and setbacks, and look for ways to continue giving a response to the pandemic.
In this space, ICW Global will inform about the advances in the organisation of the event, the last innovations, and what is about to come.
