The only international network run by and for women living with HIV is the International Community of Women Living with HIV (ICW), which has existed since 1992. It was established as a result of the dire need that women living with HIV felt to influence the formulation of policy, as well as the severe lack of support, knowledge, and services that were accessible to them.
ICW envisions a society in which all women who are HIV-positive live free from gender oppression and actively assert their legal, social, economic, and health rights. We are here to spearhead initiatives aimed at protecting and enhancing the standard of living for women with HIV. In order to do this, we mobilize, organize, advocate for, mentor, and raise public awareness about the problems that have a direct bearing on our lives.
